Questions About Tooth Whitening
Serving Kanata, Stittsville and Ottawa, Ontario
How is professional tooth whitening different from over-the-counter whitening systems?
Whether you choose in-office teeth whitening or decide to use an at-home tooth whitener available from Dentistry at Main, the results will be more remarkable than over-the-counter tooth whiteners. Both the PolaOffice + in-office whitening system and Pola Day at-home whitening system use higher concentrations of whitening agents, which produces a more noticeably whiter smile than over-the-counter tooth whitening systems can provide.
Is tooth whitening expensive?
The cost of tooth whitening can vary greatly between dentists and tooth whitening systems. Since Ottawa cosmetic dentist Dr. Ami Barakat must first evaluate your individual smile to decide on the tooth whitening system that will give you the best results, it is difficult to give an estimate of the cost of your procedure. You can request an appointment for a consultation to find out how much your tooth whitening will cost.
What kind of professional tooth whitening do you use?
Dentistry at Main offers two types of professional tooth whitening systems:
- PolaOffice + In-Office Tooth Whitening
- Pola Day At-Home Tooth Whitening with custom whitening trays
Our in-office tooth whitening system offers you immediate results in about an hour. The Pola Day at-home tooth whitening system typically requires that you wear your tooth whitening trays between 30 and 60 minutes a day for a period of up to two weeks.
Will my teeth feel sensitivity after tooth whitening?
Some individuals experience increased tooth sensitivity after tooth whitening, but this is not common. If you do experience tooth sensitivity, it is likely to fade after a few days once your treatment is complete.
If you are using an at-home tooth whitening system and experience increased tooth sensitivity, you should avoid extremely hot or cold food and drinks and inform Dr. Barakat at once. He may recommend that you change how you are applying the tooth whitener.
How white will my teeth be after professional tooth whitening?
Different tooth whitening systems provide different results. The PolaOffice + tooth whitening system gives patients teeth that are an average of eight shades whiter than before treatment. That means some people may see whiter results than others.
You should also be aware that even in-office tooth whitening may not be able to remove some types of tooth stains, including chemical or genetic discolouration.
How long does professional tooth whitening last?
The effects of professional tooth whitening may last from 1-3 years, depending on how regularly you consume foods and beverages which stain your teeth. However, many individuals choose to have regular touch-ups every six months at a very affordable price.
